Luciana was brought up in Rome with her grandparents. Luciana's father was Manlio Paoluzzi, an Italian army officer and her mom was Maria Rota Paoluzzi who was once one of Benito Mussolini's lover's wives. There is no information available on having siblings. Luciana went to the local high school, following her graduation in the year 1955. She then studied Naval Engineering at the Scientific Academy of Milan. She was the sole woman in her class. She began her modeling career after two years. However, this was changed after she got her first acting role by accident when she visited her father's Rome acquaintance. The role was a two-line character in the film Three Coins in the Fountain. Her first husband was Brett Halsey who is also an actor. They made Return to the Peyton Palace in 1960 following their wed. Luciana had the custody of Charles born on 13 June 1961. The couple split one year later. Luciana was in a relationship with Tony Athony from 1962 until 1970. He was an actor and producer who was inspired by her character to write and direct this Spaghetti Western hybrid based on her character in the movie Green Slime.
